Family Updates

Many of our Ministry Partners have known us for many years and have asked, from time to time, for an update on how our kids are doing as well as any other family news. So we wanted to have a place where we could give our Partners periodic updates on our family. We are very thankful to the Lord for giving us the great family we have!!

College Plans: May 2020 Update on Caleb

We are thrilled to share that Caleb has been accepted to the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) and will begin attending there in the Fall of 2020!  Congratulations Caleb! We are so proud of you and thankful that, by God's grace and your work, you were accepted to your "first choice" school!

For those of you who do not know or remember Caleb's college plans, he attended Pulaski Tech for a year after graduating high school in May of 2018. Then, being unsure about his future plans, decided to take a year off to work and figure out what his "next steps" would be as far as college and career.

After initially thinking he would pursue becoming and Occupational Therapist Assistant, he made the longer-term decision to pursue being an Occupational Therapist. This means getting a bachelor's degree and then getting accepted into OT school (hopefully also at UCA) and getting his doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy!  How does "Dr. Solberg" sound, Caleb?

We are thankful for the wisdom to take a year off and work and try to determine God's path for his career. And although he has a lot of school ahead of him, we know he has the God-given ability and determination to persevere and reach his goal of becoming an OT.

Please say a prayer for Caleb as he embarks on this 3-year plan to get his Bachelor's degree and then an additional three years to finish his doctorate degree.

And if you are wondering, the pictures show he and his girlfriend, Taylor, as they celebrated the day he got his acceptance letter from UCA. And Caleb is also excited because Taylor will also be attending UCA in the Fall as she works toward a nursing degree.

Sarah's Mission Trip: Info and Update

April 2020 Update:  Sarah's mission trip to Malawi was first postponed until late July but now has been canceled due to concerns about travel from the Mission Staff at our church. Please pray the trip will be rescheduled as soon as possible and every member of the Team will still be able to go!

March 2020 Update: This mission trip to Malawi has been delayed because of the global concerns around COVID-19. Right now, it is rescheduled for July of 2020. Please pray for all the details of the trip and for this "new timing" to clearly be a move of the Lord for many Kingdom purposes!

February 2020: Excited to share that our daughter, Sarah, will be going on a mission trip to Malawi, Africa in April of 2020!  She has been looking for a mission trip for a while that involved serving kids - and God has answered her prayer as the team going there will be doing a VBS with kids!  We are also thankful and grateful to God that she is fully funded for the trip. By God's grace and the generosity of those who know her, she was able see the Lord provide the whole $2500 needed for the trip.

Please pray: For the Team as they put together the content for the VBS and for some of the Team who are still needing to get to full support. Pray also for Sarah that God would prepare her mentally, spiritually, and physically for this opportunity to serve kids in Malawi!

Family Focus for the New Year as we end 2019

Late December 2019:  As a family, we want to focus on two things as we move into 2020: Humility and Gratitude - which we believe go hand-in-hand with each other. So please pray that all 6 of us would grow in both humility and in gratitude as we closely abide with the Lord and His Word in 2020!! Thanks for praying this!

"Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you."  1 Peter 5:5b-7

"I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High." Psalm 9:1-2

Mother's Day 2019 in Arkansas

May 2019:  Mother's Day is a special day for most of us. Shawn and I are thankful that we still have our Mom's around and are able to thank them for the special ways they loved and sacrificed for us.

Shawn had a special day with 2 of our 3 "kids" being home - see picture to the right. Would have been great if Josh and Audrey could have joined us but that was not in the cards this year :). We did take her out to one of her favorite eating places and had a good time. And she did get a "much enjoyed" call from Josh that day as well.

Shawn had asked for some new patio furniture for her special day as we did get some for her. Hope to post those pictures here soon!

Family Together in Arkansas

January 2019:  Shawn and I were thrilled to have all 6 of us together in January in Arkansas for a few days!  Our oldest son, Josh, and his wife, Audrey, were able to come and visit us in early January when he had leave and Audrey was out of college on Christmas break.  We were so thankful that the 6 of us could be together to share some meals, laugh together, play some games, and enjoy our Sunday church service on the Sunday they were in town!

We were also thankful to have my parent's (Glen's parents from Tennessee) join us for part of the time when Josh and Audrey were visiting.

The picture to the right was of the four young folks when they went out for a bite to eat at a local restaurant.

Later in the month of January, we were able to celebrate Caleb's 19th birthday. And we will soon celebrate Sarah's 21st in early February!

Our Anniversary Trip to Montana

September 2018:  Shawn and I were able to get away for 10 days to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. We really had a great time just relaxing and trying to do "as little as possible" :). We had wonderful weather there with highs in the 60's and 70's and lows in the 30's and 40's! Quite a change from Little Rock!! The folks at the retreat center where we stayed treated us like family and really spoiled us. We hope we can go there again some time in the future!  You can read more in our October update. We were having fun at a local outdoor market with fun things to look at and yummy things to eat as well!

A gorgeous view of God's creation in Montana from the top of a ridge. Incredible 360 degree view!!!

Josh and Audrey: Hurricane Florence

September 11, 2018: With Hurricane Florence quickly approaching the East Cost and with predicted landfall near Wilmington NC, Josh and Audrey are evacuating. God has provided a place for them to stay with some family friends near Raleigh. Please pray for them and for all in the path of this hurricane.  Will give updates when we know more.

September 23, 2018: We are happy to report that Josh and Audrey made it back to their duplex and, by the great grace of God, they have NO water in their place!  With 26-30 inches of rain in their area, that is indeed a miracle of God!  Thank You, Lord! So please praise God with us for His protection and provision for them during the storm. And while we are thankful for not having to deal with the flood damage, someone did break in their place while they were gone and stole a few items (they had taken most of the valuables they could), so please pray for God's continuing provision for the things they lost and for their landlord to fix the door that was kicked in.

Caleb's High School Graduation

May 2018: Excited to share that our youngest son, Caleb, graduated from high school on May 10, 2018. And we were very thankful to have had Josh and Audrey, as well as both sets of grandparents, present for the event!  Check out a few pictures we are sharing below. Giving thanks to the Lord for this young man - a real gift of God to all who know him!

And while we had Josh and Audrey here in Little Rock, we took the opportunity to take some new family pics. Check out a few of them beow! Thank You Lord for this family!!
